Meet the 2024/2025 Richard Carbotti Scholarship Recipients!

ILEA Rhode Island is proud to bring back the Richard Carbotti Scholarship for the 2024-2025 year and onward. This scholarship was created in honor of ILEA RI's very first president, Richard Carbotti who served from 2004-2006. An individual who founded ILEA RI and helped to grow to be as great as it is today. The scholarship is open to one industry professional and one student who wish to be a part of ILEA RI to gain an immense network, growth their industry knowledge, and discover all the opportunities that is available to the hospitality in Rhode Island.

The scholarship is given to one industry professional and one students looking to join the hospitality industry upon graduation. Each recipent must have never been a an ILEA member in the last 3 years and is looking to grow their career while supporting ILEA RI and its mission.


 
PROFESSIONAL RECIPIENT: BROOKE GATCHELL

Brooke Gatchell is a creative strategist and social media professional with a rich background in digital media, hospitality, and event management. A graduate of Johnson & Wales University, Brooke honed her skills in hospitality and tourism management, which laid the foundation for her unique approach to brand storytelling and audience engagement.

In her role at SkillsUSA, Brooke leads nationwide social media campaigns and has collaborated with partners including Carhartt, Lowe's, and Wolverine. She champions the organization’s mission to inspire students to pursue a career in the skilled trades and oversees social media professional development opportunities for SkillsUSA members. Additionally, she is the owner of Live Free Media, a multimedia content creation and social media strategy company, as well as vibe curator (DJ) at IT'S LIT Weddings and Events. 

With expertise in photography, videography, and digital marketing strategy, Brooke excels in crafting campaigns that foster community and brand loyalty. Based in Providence, Rhode Island, she is passionate about building meaningful connections and elevating brands through authentic and innovative storytelling.

 
STUDENT RECIPIENT: LENA ALLIE

Lena Allie is a senior at Johnson & Wales University, studying Sports, Entertainment, and Event Management with a minor in Food and Beverage Management. She has been a member of the Live Events Association (LEA) chapter at her school since her sophomore year and has served as the Fundraising Coordinator since her junior year. Lena has found LEA to be an invaluable community for honing her skills, networking with industry professionals, and gaining experience in the event planning field. After graduation, she aspires to work for an event planning company and travel both within the U.S. and internationally.


What do you hope top gain out of ILEA RI?

"As someone from Massachusetts, I think it would be terrific to obtain more potential events outside of Rhode Island and expand to more of Massachusetts and possibly Connecticut. I am always willing to help whenever necessary and want to encourage other’s abilities in order for them to showcase the best version of themselves."
